Sector Groups

Some issues specific to groups of members are handled by Sector Groups. The work of these groups varies from time to time but encompasses some of the following:

Retail

The Retail Sector is a major group with members ranging from small to very large businesses.

They benefit from:

  • Eftpos arrangement with Westpac
  • Selling and redeeming Go Gardening gift cards and vouchers
  • Garden Centre of the Year Award exclusively for Sector members
  • Regular articles in Commercial Horticulture magazine
  • Merchandising Go Gardening magazine
  • Regular Sector news in the monthly Association newsletter
  • Specialist speakers at sector meetings and conference

Growers

The Growers Sector propagates and grow a wide range of ornamental trees and shrubs. A very active group whose members benefit from:

  • Implementation of the Nursery Development Programme
  • Promotion of the benefits of greenlife
  • Promotion of plants through the Go Gardening consumer promotions programme
  • Regular articles in Commercial Horticulture magazine
  • Interfirm comparisons with associated workshops
  • Plant Variety Rights representation
  • Nursery of the Year Award exclusively for Sector members
  • Development of computerised costing programme
  • Plant Trolley system to facilitate transportation of plants throughout New Zealand
  • Specialist speakers at sector meetings and conference

Suppliers

The Suppliers Sector is currently is recess. It was made up of merchants, manufacturers and suppliers of dry goods. It's former members are now members of the Retail and Growers Sectors. It was involved in:

  • Standards for growing media and compost
  • Consultations with Public Health Commission on Legionella
  • Input to publication of educational leaflets
  • Trade support for NGINZ Conferences
